20hp Centenary Welsh Marches Run 2022

On July 13th, 9 x 20hp’s, 2 x 20/25’s, a Shadow, a Spirit and a visitor from the USA whose 20hp was at home met for a coffee and bacon bap at 10am at The Yockleton Arms just outside Shrewsbury. This was the meeting place for The Welsh Marches Run. All were provided with a Rally Plaque, cable ties and a Route Book for a fascinating run through the Welsh Marches going through Montgomery, Clun and Knighton before arriving at Stokesay Castle near Craven Arms.

Tom Jones The 20hp Registrar came all the way from St Austell in support which was very much appreciated. All others were from the West Midlands Section.

The route was approximately 60 miles and took everyone through such beautiful countryside, in the main on good quality B roads. Just after Montgomery, a number of participants decided to call in at the Montgomery Vineyard which we passed en route. As it was a very good day weather wise some decided to stop at Clun, where parking is quite good, to be refreshed with an ice cream before continuing to Stokesay Castle.
At Stokesay Castle English Heritage sectioned off a large area of on grass parking where we could take advantage of the shade from the backdrop of large trees. Most brought their own picnics but with an on-site café no one was going to go hungry. Afterwards most of the participants visited the castle which was at their own expense and said how much they enjoyed the visit.

Judging by the emails and phone calls received afterwards everyone appeared to enjoy the day and some asked when we were going to do something of this sort again!!
