Stephen Leckie

1926 Hooper Six Light Saloon GCK40

FL 5003, 3.1 litre, 60mph, 50hp

The car has had four owners. It was converted to a shooting brake after World War 11, then bought by a Dr Watson, who spent twelve years fastidiously rebuilding it to the original specification which resulted in the achievement of many first-class awards.

It has a 3.1 litre straight six petrol engine originally designed to put out 20hp, but, in fact, it is probably closer to 50hp. Overdrive has recently been fitted at a cost of £3000, resulting in a top speed downhill of 60mph and 40mph for anything resembling an upward hill. Fuel consumption - 16 mpg.

The car first sold for £1100 in 1926, which equates today to something in the region of £53000. The car was valued in 1972 on completion of its twelve year re-build at £11000 which in today's terms is around £53000.

Amongst many other things, Dr Watson invested in 25 litres of paint to complete the finish, 5 1/2 cow hides for the interior and many, many highly detailed and technical letters to a variety of experts throughout the country during the early seventies.

The car has covered 6000 miles since the full re-build forty years ago and requires servicing every 1000 miles, with the many oil joints around the chassis adding extra time to this schedule. 2 days work.

First Registered 12th March 1926

Her Majesty The late Queen Elizabeth was born 21st April 1926

Stephen is the Lord-Lieutenant of Perth and Kinross, the King's representative for the Region. The flag in the window of his 20hp is a Lord-Lieutenant's flag in the form of a Union Jack with a Crown above a horizontal gold sword.
