1926 Hooper Laudaulet GOK15

 

History of GOK15


1926 Delivered on 22nd April as a standard Hooper Landaulet to Sir Henry Cosmo Orme Bonsor,Bt. of 38, Belgrave Sq., SW1. Born in 1848 he became MP for Wimbledon and Chairman of the South Eastern Railway. He was also a city financier, a partner in the brewery Combe & Co and a director of the Bank of England. Sir Henry dies in 1929.


1934 Car still in possession of his widow who purchased a spare wheel carrier from the Factory.


1936 Car returned to the factory for major overhaul.


1937-1956 No history known. Believed it was donated to the war effort and converted to an ambulance.


1957 Car appears in the ownership of David Mackenzie of Perth, Scotland. Now described in the logbook as a cream caravan.


1978 New owner Thomas Love of Perth. Thomas obtained the car from his uncle, William Laurie who never registered the car in his name and used it for many years as temporary accommodation for casual farm workers on his farm. Thomas restored the car as a Doctors Coupe in the 70’s and then lost interest having obtained the 1904 Royce which sold after his death for over £3million.


1989 Purchased by John Whitehead of Perth. John invested heavily in the car having a major engine and chassis re-build by Brunts of Silverdale which was completed in 2000.


2005 Sold to Mark Buckley at Portsmouth. 2006 Sold to Real Car Co in Wales and purchased by current owners. Driven to Le Mans and back. 2007 Driven on 12 day tour to the Loire Valley in France.


2008 Fitted with Overdrive. Driven to France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Moselle Valley in Germany. 2009 Trip to Spain. 2010 Clutch went, then front axle cracked and was replaced. 2011 Normandy in June & Brittany in October. 2014 Harz Mountains Germany & Autumn trip to Clisson, France.


2016/17 Major body upgrade with repair and fabric covering. 2017 Trip to the Jura mountains on Swiss French border autumn trip to Somerset.


2019 Trip to Yorkshire


2021 Trip to Lincolnshire


Generally used locally for shows and vintage events. In our ownership we have covered about 18000 miles between 2006 and 2021.
