Neil Fraser of Ireland

1929 Originally a Barker Coupe, later re-bodied with what is believed to be a 1932 Park Ward Saloon body. GEN 33

Neil Fraser in Ireland bought 1929 GEN33 in 2017 with the intention of restoring it; this is his first Rolls-Royce car.  GEN33 has had an unusual and enigmatic career, starting life as a pretty Barker coupe, sold to the Hon Mrs E Harmsworth in August 1929, with registration UU 8608.

At some time it was re-bodied and acquired a Cornish registration NAF 935; Tom Clarke believes the coachwork could be modified from a 1932 Park Ward.  By 1958 it was resting in a scrapyard on the edge of Dartmoor, not having been re-commissioned after the war.  It was bought by David Wickers of Exeter for £100 less a trade-in.  David repaired the engine and body and used the car regularly before selling it on to a “man in the motor trade”.  Then apparently it was stored in a barn for 32 years before being sold at auction in 1998.  It was acquired by RREC member David Baldock who stored it before selling it to Neil.

Neil has written a paperback book about his restoration of GEN33:

"The Other Yellow Rolls-Royce GEN 33 which is a collection of stories plus 247 colour photographs and illustrations of the rebuild of my very poor condition 1929 20hp Rolls-Royce GEN33, pulled out of a long barn rest, complete with ivy, rat droppings, straw etc.  The book costs £15 plus postage anywhere. Only 55 copies left and an ideal Christmas gift:  eBay code 223 518 187 206"

Since completing the restoration Neil has written a sequel to the book about the teething problems and several breakdowns plus the Technical help he got from many members. The sequel is in the form of four chapters. This can be obtained by using the "Contact Us" facility on this web site requesting a copy.
